How to safely sterilise your jars

Wash jars thoroughly using hot, soapy water, then sterilise using one of the following methods:

Oven

Preheat the oven to 140°C. Place upright jars and lids separately onto a baking tray and heat for approx. 15 minutes. Remove jars and fill while still hot (jam, preserves, chutney, etc), then seal.

Stovetop

Place jars and lids in a deep saucepan over high heat. Cover with cold water. Bring to the boil, then boil for 10 minutes. Line a baking tray with paper towel. Carefully remove the jars and place onto tray and pat dry with clean paper towel. Fill while still hot (jam, preserves, chutney, etc), then seal.

Dishwasher

Place jars, lids and rubber seals into the dishwasher and run them through the hottest cycle. Line a baking tray with paper towel. Carefully remove the jars and place onto tray and pat dry with clean paper towel. Fill while still hot (jam, preserves, chutney, etc), then seal.
